Waves of knowing part one: Behavioural change
The brief
As part of this university project, I was tasked with choosing an issue involving pollution, then creating a solution to the issue in a way that causes a change in the publics behaviour.
The issue
The issue I focused on was the littering of plastic along Barry Island Beach, with research showing that it's younger people, aged 10-20, who are the main culprits when it comes to dropping plastic litter on Barry Beach.
My solution: Barry's Voucher Clean Scheme
This is a scheme that is aimed at 10-16 year olds that involves this age range being rewarded vouchers for handing in pieces of plastic (either found littered on the beach, or pieces just used so they don't get littered too) These vouchers can then be used within some of the food and drink businesses near the Barry Beach front.
Waves of knowing part two: Disruptive design
The brief
In the second part of this project, I was tasked with finding an issue that related to that of part one, then creating a disruptive design aimed at the new issue.
The issue
The new issue I focused on was the littering and abandonment of children's beach toys along beach fronts, with research showing that it's parents of younger children who are most guilty of this.
My solution-Disruptive stickers
My solution to this was to create a set of stickers that would be placed in family bathroom/changing facilities, which meant it was only the intended audience seeing these stickers.
